If you are not against mod, download the FOURBERIE mod. It allow you to play as a bandit and has many way for you to level up the roguery of your companion. But you're able to play as a bandit in vanilla already. Just need to stick them in their own party and give them all the bandit troops as their party troops for roguery xp.

That’s how I got it to work. That one I’m not sure about, I haven’t gotten to the point where I’m running with multiple parties on 1.8 yet. Go to Clan, parties, select the party you want to disband, then under the name of the party leader choose "change party leader" and select "none". That way it will disband. Z70dR.
